London Forklift License - Within North America, acquiring a forklift license or forklift certification involves hands-on and classroom training. Regulatory control over training, licensing and certification for powered industrial truck operators falls under the jurisdiction of provincial, federal and state groups. Operators may obtain a license either by a third party or through training administered by the employer. Regardless, regulatory requirements should be met. Recertification is necessary every two to three years.

The forklift is a powered industrial equipment which is designed with various options, like stand-up and sit down models, electric and propane versions, and different sizes and types to meet the industrial requirements of workers. Operator training courses are often individualized to address the particular kinds and uses for which the operator is training. Training on a gas-powered, sit-down lift truck within a warehouse surroundings would not be the same as training on a stand-up, propane-powered lift truck within a shipyard. The program incorporates forklift operation methods, safety procedures, company regulations and lift truck maintenance. Topics specific to the worksite, such as dangerous conditions or materials, should be covered. Following classroom learning, operators are taught how to safely use and operate every type of forklift on the worksite.

When using a third party trainer, the certification process would usually consist of an on-site component along with hands-on practice.

Normally, an employer-provided certification would not transfer from the current employer to the next employer. Acquiring a lift truck license through employer-provided training allows the operator to operate a forklift for that particular employer only.

The most significant aspect of lift truck license training is forklift safety. The exact safety training requirements differ from one type of equipment to another. Safety issues differ from employer to employer, and from industry to industry. Both employer-provided training and third-party providers may have to address extra requirements for safety training in applicable businesses, such as in marine and offshore operations.
